Ricarda Bochat runs the GSBTB Open Kitchen, best known for its Refugee Cooking Group. When Ricarda isn’t organizing volunteers to shop for foreign ingredients and cook up international feasts, she’s plotting the Open Kitchen’s new streetfood market venture.

Dear all who offer your time and skills to do volunteer work within the refugee community,

On a cold January day GSBTB hosted a large group of American and Danish students who were in Berlin to learn about German history, migration, multicultural communities and the refugee topic.

The GSBTB Open Art Shelter visits the Neuhardenberg Refugee Camp, an hour-and-a-half's drive east of Berlin.

Every month at Give Something Back to Berlin we organise a community event where refugees and Berliners of all kinds – Germans, recently-settled “expats” etc. – come together to meet new people.

For the first few hours of Christmas day I really regretted my decision to have a Berlin Christmas. Luckily, I had kept one tradition – the stress of trying to cook Christmas dinner.
