Liz Ricks-Aherne volunteered full-time for GSBTB Open Art Shelter during the year she lived in Berlin. Before she left at the end of the summer, Open Art Shelter intern Madeline McKay sat down with her to talk about how her experiences in Berlin will inform her life and work back in the US.

Orla Gill is a volunteer at GSBTB's partner organisation Dynamis, an organisation supporting people living with disabilities. Orla tells us how her experience volunteering has given her a broader perspective on life in Berlin and helped to improve her German skills.

Photographer Olga Baczynska has been covering GSBTB events, large and small, for the past couple of years. When she's not got her camera in hand, you'll probably find her at Clärchens Ballhaus dancing the Balboa!

Emmanuelle Chaze is a freelance journalist from France currently collaborating with GSBTB and several local organizations. After following her blog Berliner Diary for some months we wanted to get to know her a bit better. Here's what she had to say.

These nice words came from the team at the homeless organisation Frostschutzengel who thanked all you GSBTBerliner volunteers for your commitment in 2015.

"I heard of the attacks on your people on Friday. I'm so sorry for that. I think of your people." His condolences are the most touching I have received, because they come from someone who has lived every day with the horror I experienced on January 7th and November 13th.

Once dubbed the “mother of all airports”, Tempelhof Airport is now welcoming refugees into its bosom.

I spent last Wednesday serving lunch to refugees with the volunteer group Moabit Hilft. The unmistakable sound of chanting protestors boomed towards us from the main street while my friend Lisa and I carted our tray of minestrone soups and schrippen around the park.
